Carlton
Best known for Carlton Towers, one of Yorkshire’s most beautiful stately homes and a venue for weddings, corporate and public events. The Grade I listed Victorian gothic country house sits on a country estate and dates back to the 1600s. There has been a manor on these grounds since the 14th century. Carlton Towers’ epic stature has been an eye-catching stand-in for Windsor Castle in the acclaimed ITV series Victoria. In the 1988 feature film A Handful of Dust by Evelyn Waugh, the house was used as the main location. Other appearances include Bollywood blockbusters, the prime-time BBC series MasterChef and iconic English classic The Darling Buds of May.
Carlton is just a short drive from Selby. The area is popular with dog walkers and the village hall has an active community with activities and events for all ages.
For eating out, the village has a pub (The Forresters Arms) and Frying Nemo fish and chip shop. Dough Outta Pizza serves "the best tasting, fresh Italian style pizzas to the world with a modern twist!" and the Little Black Dog Brewery and Tap Room, located in the grounds of Carlton Towers, serves home brewed ales and stouts and houses live music events.
Carlton enjoys close proximity to the M62 which makes it easy to join the A1, M1 and M180 whether you are going north, east, south or west. It is possible to commute to Doncaster, Leeds or York in under an hour.
