Food & Drink at the Heart of Yorkshire
Making is at the heart of what we do in Selby District. We have a huge agricultural yield sending grain and food across the UK, as well as supporting research into new protein sources and vertical farming. From the grain stores to the breweries, Selby District has long fostered a productive connection to its natural resources and the intergenerational skill of its people.
Did you know that England’s first banana can be traced back to Selby? Herbalist, botanist, and merchant Thomas Johnson, born in Selby, is thought to be the first person to bring bananas to our country. Today the district is still home to innovative local producers, including award-winning butchers, bakers, brewers, cheese shops and farmers.
Great food and drink is an incredibly important element of any day trip, weekend away or holiday and Selby District offers some fantastic places to eat and drink. Whether you’re looking for market town restaurants, village pubs, friendly tearooms or award winning fish and chips, you’ll be spoilt for choice at the Heart of Yorkshire.
