Sing a Song of Selby

Watch local school children sing a song of Selby.

Sing a Song of Selby was a singing and song writing project with young people from primary schools in Selby District. They got involved with a number of workshops discussing histories and reminiscences from the area. The children wrote and performed their own songs based on stories about Selby, working with Sam Dunkley from Performing Arts etc.

This first film shows songs from Selby Community Primary School and Selby Abbey Primary School, written in Winter 2021 and recorded in March 2022.

The second film shows songs from Barlby Bridge Primary, Brayton C of E Primary, Riccall Community Primary, Staynor Hall Community Primary Academy and Wistow Parochial CofE Primary School performing their songs at Selby Abbey Summer 2022.

This third and final film below was recorded in May 2023. Live accompaniment is provided by Health Lanzillotti and the students from Selby High School.

The project was part of Selby Stories – an exciting programme of arts and cultural events running until late 2023, celebrating what makes Selby special and unique.
