From the middle of November, all the way through the Festive period, the Selby District has a full and fantastic schedule of sparkling Christmas events to get you in the festive spirit.

Discover Christmas party nights, countdown as Christmas lights are switched on, attend wreath-making, willow weaving or jewellery workshops, and enjoy wonderful concerts, live music and jingles.

Soak up the atmosphere of our market towns and marvel at our Abbey and historic churches that become illuminated at dusk throughout winter.

Christmas Lights

The fantastic Selby Town Council Christmas Lights will come to life on Saturday 27th November, Thorpe Willoughby invite you to join them for the switching on of the Christmas Tree lights on Friday 3rd December and Riccall’s Christmas lights will be switched on, at the start of the annual Riccall Dickensian Christmas Fayre on Saturday 4th December.

Towton’s Christmas lights are not to be missed either.

Festive Events and Activities

Dragon Willow will introduce you to willow weaving and help you create festive snowmen, deer, hearts and more and Silver and Stone by Helen Drye will take you on a creative, silver making journey – perfect for gifting.

Our local ceramic painting studios at Clayfever, The Painting Pot and Hillam Potting Shed have a pic of festive crafts, activities and workshops for you to choose from, ideal for celebrations, festive get togethers and family fun during the Christmas holidays.

Sweet mulled wine, indulgent nibbles and trinkets fit to fill your Christmas stockings are just a few of the delights waiting for you at the district’s Christmas markets. Be sure not to miss out on local produce from the Heart of Yorkshire and discover festive treats and tasty tipples to prepare you for that all important Christmas Day lunch.

Marvel at sparkly trees and glistening Christmas lights, wrap your hands around a steaming cup of mulled wine and wander around Christmas Markets.

Santa Spotting

Rumour has it that Santa is coming to the District too, with the fabulous Santa’s Grotto at Wetherells of Selby, a pit stop at The Motorist in Sherburn in Elmet and Brunch at Carlton Towers!

Catch Santa for Breakfast at The Owl at Hambleton, before visiting his Grotto at Selby Garden Centre, or his Tipi at Escrick Park Estate. You can even enjoy Tea Time with Mrs Claus at Birkin Fisheries Tearoom!
